WHY NARRATIVE IS AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF DOCUMENTARY?

 People watch documentary for many different reasons, it can be explained through the uses and gratification theory. 

DIVERSION- helps the audience divert their attention away from the rest of the world and what may be going on in the world. 

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS- the audience may be absolutely in love with Michael Jordan so when watching the Last Dance they may feel they get a deeper understanding into him as a person so may form a personal relationship with him even more. 

PERSONAL IDENTITY- the audience may recognise aspects of themselves in characters or would like to aspire to be like that person so watch documentary for that feeling. 

SURVEILLANCE- this is where the audience watch to learn new information and educate themselves on topics they perhaps aren't usually aware of.
